Are you thinking of doing something new? I hope you don’t have the expectation that it is going to be easy. These are the things to expect when moving outside of your norm.

1.       You are going to feel super awkward: When you are moving in unchartered territory you will not feel totally like yourself. Your confidence will take a slight hit. But you have to remember to ride the wave, take everything in, and learn all you can.  Feeling awkward is humbling, but that is not a bad place to be in.

2.       There is a level of anxiety: There will be moments when your heart is going to beat a little faster than normal. Especially when you are like me and you have to walk into new environments. In  my recent end of the year post on IG I spoke about one of the things I was most proud of in 2019. And that was going to more events and making connections. Trust me many of those moments required a pep talk in the car right before walking in. I was full of nerves but didn’t let that stop me. Remember to let that spike in heartbeat spur you on and give you energy, not cause you to retreat.

3.       It’s exciting and scary all at the same time: The same thing that excites you about change will also be the thing that seems too big for you. I love being a big dreamer but it also scares me because I’m like is this even possible. But if God has placed that seed in your heart, He has definitely equipped you to see it through. That doesn’t mean that it’s not going to look super daunting at first.

4.       It will feel bigger than you: This is right in the same vein as number 3. The thing that I realized is that realistically it is bigger than you. The only way we can truly walk in our purpose is with God’s help. This humbles me and also gives me confidence. I know that with God all things are possible, so when I lean into Him I am at my best. Also remember that your purpose is not just about you. We are connected and when we live out our purpose we are giving someone else wings to live out there’s.

5.       It will be challenging: It is going to take fight and grit. Deciding that you are doing something new or moving in a new direction is only the first step. There is so much work that comes after the decision. Do the work and it will pay off, but you’re going to have to pay the price.

I am definitely not trying to frighten you. But I am trying to give you a realistic expectation of what change feels and looks like. So when you feel it you can move through it and past it. I think that many of us retreat from change because we think it’s supposed to be comfortable and easy. But if that was the truth, change would come easy to all of us. Don’t let social media fool you, nothing ever happens overnight. Those who truly win are open to the process of moving outside of comfort zones, no matter how awkward it feels.

With Love,

Cree
