As we move into the new year and the new decade, I am over the moon excited but also very thoughtful. Instead of making resolutions, I thought it important to make decisions about what type of life habits I want to cement. I think that it is important that we create lifestyle habits that will sustain past the new year. How we frame these ideas and habits is key. If we only think of them as resolutions we may just write them off. But lifestyle changes are challenging and things that we want to carry with us far into the future.

Also for me creating habits is directly correlated to making my dreams/passions a reality. We are not going to reach our goals just by virtue of writing them down or creating vision boards. The way we make them a reality is by the habits we put into action. I’m bringing this up again because it is really important to me how I frame this idea. I want us to be equipped to sustain the fabulous futures that we aspire too. The definition of a habit is a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up (Google dictionary). We often focus on ridding ourselves of bad habits but I think in this new year we need to put that focus on creating good habits.

I don’t think there is a secret formula that will fit everybody’s needs, but I do believe that we have to start with baby steps. We can’t make broad statements without thinking about the actual process that it takes to get to the end goal. Although we are already into the new year it does not mean that the time has run out for us to think deeply about what we want the year and the decade to look like and the steps we are going to take to get there. Put little things into place, like reminders (sticky notes are great), surround yourself with the right people and put yourself in environments that will help you succeed.  And yes, this may mean doing things outside of your comfort zone, it may mean saying goodbye to some and hello to others and it may mean stepping into the unknown. But isn’t that so exciting? In this new year and new decade you can rewrite the script, the only thing that can make it truly epic is you.

There will be things that will be outside our control, we will have awesome moments, hard moments and mundane moments. But you are going to be the constant through it all. Start small, create good habits and execute.

With Love,

Cree
